If you’ve never seen a counsellor, booking that first session can feel like a big step. Afterwards, most people tell me it was easier than they expected. This is what happens.
Before we meet
Call, text, WhatsApp or email me, or use the form on this site. If you don’t like phoning, a text is fine. We’ll find a time, and you can meet me in Surrey or online.
The setting
I see people in my garden office at the back of the house. It’s warm and private, with trees all around, and it doesn’t feel like a clinic. Online sessions are on a secure video call, wherever you are.
The first conversation
In the first session you tell me what’s brought you here, in your own time, and we both see whether we get on. I won’t push you to talk about anything you’re not ready for. I’m a person-centred counsellor, so you decide where the sessions go. I won’t hand you answers. I’ll help you find your own.
We also sort out the practical bits. We agree the cost and sign a counselling contract, which covers confidentiality, session length and cancellations. Sessions last 50 minutes. I offer concessions for some benefits, blue light and public services, the armed forces, veterans and NHS staff. Ask me if you’re not sure whether you qualify.
What happens next
You don’t have to come back after the first session. If you want to carry on, we agree how often to meet. Most people start weekly. If I’m not the right person for you, I’ll tell you, and I’ll try to suggest someone who is.
You don’t need the right words
You don’t need a diagnosis or a clear idea of what’s wrong. “I don’t feel like myself” is reason enough to get in touch.
Get in touch if you have questions or want to book a first session.
